Since the open beta started the launcher has received a series of updates: it no longer loses what it has downloaded when the connection drops, it is much lighter on memory, and it protects game archives from damage. Here is everything that changed, with dates.
5new connection points
4languages in the hints
35client version in the download
Downloads no longer start over
- Resume from the break point. When the connection drops, the download continues from where it stopped instead of resetting to zero (8 July).
- Files survive a failure. Downloaded parts stay on the disk even if the launcher was closed or the network went down. No more re-downloading gigabytes (4 August).
- A live progress bar. You can see which file is downloading, how many megabytes are done and at what speed. The bar no longer freezes on large files (23 July).
Protecting the game archives
- Free space is checked first. Before writing into a game archive the launcher checks whether there is enough free space. If there is not, the write never starts and your files stay intact (4 August).
- Reliable unpacking. The cause of downloaded files ending up damaged inside an archive has been removed (17 July).
- Large archives. Updating big archives became more resistant to download failures (29 July).
- Safe self-update. If the launcher fails to update itself, the client update does not start, so the game files cannot break. A renamed launcher file no longer blocks the update either (20 July).
Connection and compatibility
- 5 new connection points to the update server, so the download finishes for more players (4 July).
- Older processors. Support was added for processors without modern instruction sets: the launcher and the client now start where they used to fail silently (8 July).
- Screen scaling. The launcher window is no longer cut off when the Windows system scale is above 100 percent (4 July).
Small things that save time
- Less memory. Updating and full client verification became noticeably lighter, so on weak computers the process now reaches the end (4 August).
- Clear errors. Instead of a generic failure the launcher tells you exactly what is missing: disk space or memory (4 August).
- A hint on the greyed out button. Hover over the inactive play button and the launcher tells you what is missing: add an account or select one from the list. The hint is translated into all 4 launcher languages (22 August).
- A fresher download. The client on the site now comes with version 35 and the latest launcher, so the first update after installing is shorter (9 August).
If the launcher still behaves oddly, write to support: it keeps a log and the cause is usually visible there.
The dates in brackets are the updates the change shipped in. These news posts come out later than the changes themselves: there was simply no time to write them.
